The El Paso Fire Department (EPFD) was established on January 18, 1882, following a significant fire in 1881 that highlighted the need for organized fire protection. Initially a volunteer force, EPFD transitioned to a fully paid professional department in 1909. Today, EPFD operates 34 stations and offers a range of services, including fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, and technical rescues.

EPFD’s commitment to excellence is evident through its international accreditation by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) and its top Public Protection Classification from the Insurance Services Office (ISO), contributing to lower insurance rates for El Paso residents.
