Meet Phoenix the SFRS Fire Investigation Dog

3rd August @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Drop in to meet Phoenix the SFRS Fire Investigation Dog (FID) and Watch Commander Jonathan Honeyman. WC Honeyman is a Fire Investigation Officer and Fire Investigation Dog Handler. He is also lead of NFCC workstream for FIDs UK. Chair of the National Association of Fire Investigation Dog Handlers and member of NFCC Canine working group.

Come and learn about the role of fire investigation dogs. A number of UK Fire and Rescue services have used an FID resource as far back as 1996, with 17 FID teams (some with multiple dogs) now in operation. The dogs are certified in detection of ignitable liquids to meet the best practice criteria contained in the “Association of Fire Investigation Dog Handler Teams (Guide to Best Practice)”

The FID is trained to identify a range of liquids with chemical properties that make them ignitable. A trained FID is far more effective at detecting the presence of ignitable liquids at a scene than a human being, and also exceeds the capabilities of portable instrumentation.

Now that you know how impressive Phoenix and WC Honeyman are, come by and meet them both. Ask questions and see a demonstration!

In the afternoon there will be a  talk about the role of fire investigation and dogs (1-2pm). Phoenix will be busy helping to give the talk.

Please note that there is a possibility this event can be cancelled if Phoenix needs to work! It is important to check this page and/or our social media on the day.
